The Best of Express 2011

Various

Express Media is here for young writers, and here in these pages are some of the young writers who found us in 2011.

Every year, Express Media receives thousands of submissions to our publications, prizes and competitions from hundreds of young writers around Australia. From these, our hard working editors, judges, volunteers, and the occasional patron will whittle down the entries to a select few to be published or win prizes.

As if we hadn’t had quite enough of selection processes this year, we decided we would do a little more selecting to bring you, in a single, tidy little ebook, some of the highlights from a year which was full of them.

The work gracing these electronic pages is the best of the best from our stable of publications in 2011, including Voiceworks, The Under Age, The Signal Express and Buzzcuts, as well as the winners of our two major writing competitions The John Marsden Prize (supported by our patron John Marsden) and Write Across Victoria (in partnership with the Melbourne Writers’ Festival).

You’d think after all the decisions we had to make this year that it would be easy by now to choose which of the works would be published in Best of Express. Not so. Every work featured in an Express Media publication this year was deserving, and there are plenty of pieces which could quite easily have made it into this ebook.

What we have here is but a taste of the amazing contribution young people are making to the literary field in Australia. If you enjoy reading them as much as we did, you can find out more at expressmedia.org.au

But enough from us.  Let’s see what these writers have to say for themselves.
